Common Types of Tendinitis

  • Achilles Tendinitis: This is a common form of tendinitis usually seen in athletes that affect the achilles tendon which runs between the heel and the calf muscle. When the achilles is put under extra stress, it can become inflamed thus resulting in tendinitis.

  • Supraspinatus Tendinitis: The supraspinatus is a tendon in the shoulder. Pain occurs when the arm is moved, especially upwards.

  • Lateral Epicondylitis: Also known as tennis or golfers' elbow, lateral epicondylitis affects the elbow - generally on the outer side, with pain radiating down towards the wrist.

  • Trigger Finger or Thumb: If your finger or thumb locks of "triggers" suddenly, you may have trigger finger or thumb. This occurs when the tendon sheath becomes inflamed and irritated, making it difficult to extend or flex the finger.
